Credit of trust: Solidarity fund strengthens family farming and climate resilience in Maranhão.

In the Baixada Maranhense region, the natural wealth of the Amazon biome meets the strength of family farming. However, limited access to credit and the fragility of the market are historical obstacles that compromise the continuity of productive activities, which are essential for food security and climate adaptation. In this scenario, Solicrédito emerges as a social technology rooted in the territory, proving that it is possible to finance a sustainable production chain based on trust, solidarity, and collective management.

Solicrédito is structured as a revolving solidarity fund, offering microcredits of one thousand to three thousand reais to family farmers. The logic is simple and transformative: each beneficiary reinvests ten accessible installments in the fund, ensuring that the resource is self-sustaining and continues to support new projects in each cycle. This model, based on mutual trust, not only reduces bureaucracy in accessing credit but also strengthens the social bonds of the community.

The process is guided by local service agents who, based on "qualified listening," help to develop and monitor investment projects. Annually, more than ten productive initiatives are incubated, strengthening local chains such as cassava, vegetables, free-range chicken, and socio-biodiversity products. This is how the project is described by those who build it: an "agile and accessible mechanism that combines economic justice and climate justice." The fund creates the conditions for small producers to invest in agroecological practices, in the care of common goods, and in the conscious use of natural resources.

The results are remarkable and go beyond the direct financial impact on more than 30 initiatives already supported. Solicrédito promotes the strengthening of community autonomy and consolidates cooperation networks that, in practice, reinforce the capacity to adapt to climate challenges. The mobilization around the fund has also increased the participation of women and young people in economic decisions and in the recovery of degraded areas, boosting self-esteem and food security. In their testimonials, farmers emphasize that the initiative has transformed not only their farms, but also the way they see themselves: protagonists in building a sustainable future. This social technology is one of the actions of the Solidárias program, made possible with the technical and financial support of the Solidárias Fund, ICBM, and strategic partnerships. Solicrédito demonstrates, in practice, that investing in family farming is investing in concrete local solutions to global challenges, financing life in the territories without giving up culture and the future.
