About the platform
Supporting local solutions to catalyze new futures.
The climate crisis imposes a new layer of vulnerability on communities and groups that already face historical social and economic inequalities, with whom these organizations have been working for decades, mobilizing resources from diverse sources to support solutions led by those who live in and know their territory.
Direct support is fundamental to strengthening adaptation and resilience actions in the face of extreme events such as floods, droughts, fires, and extreme temperatures. These same territories also hold paths to confront this reality. Their solutions are effective, often based on ancestral and empirical knowledge, inspired by nature, and with high transformative potential. They need recognition and support.
The Comuá for the Climate initiative is also the result of an intentional survey of the Network's organizations, identifying how the climate agenda already crosses various fronts of action and partnerships with civil society movements. The result reveals the presence of this support in practically all biomes and regions of Brazil, through mechanisms that ensure that resources reach those at the grassroots level, safely and with respect for local autonomy. Even so, the resources available are still insufficient given the volume of existing initiatives. Other sectors, such as corporate and family philanthropy, can contribute by joining these strategies and expanding the reach of responses, strengthening solutions that guarantee not only climate adaptation but also access to fundamental rights.
Partnerships between different forms of social investment are already happening, combining the experience of grassroots organizations with the financial capacity of large institutions, but they are still timid. To support transformation and contribute to making communities and territories more adapted and resilient, more is needed.

organizations of the comuá network
The organizations in our Network are part of the territory and work in direct partnership with local communities. They design support mechanisms based on listening, respect for local knowledge, and the pursuit of social and climate justice. With them, resources cease to be mere transfers and become instruments of rooted transformation.

It is the practice of mobilizing financial, material, and knowledge resources to support initiatives of historically marginalized groups, recognizing their knowledge and leadership role in designing solutions for their own territories.
The climate crisis is deepening existing inequalities. It disproportionately affects Indigenous communities, quilombola communities, family farmers, Black people, women, and LGBTQIAPN+ individuals, particularly in forested, rural, and marginalized areas. These groups face the most severe effects of floods, droughts, fires, and extreme temperatures.
Because they are designed by people who live in the territory, know its challenges, and know how to overcome them. They are more tailored to reality and strengthen local resilience with greater precision and impact.
The organizations within the Comuá Network work across the board with a focus on climate change, supporting civil society organizations and movements in accessing rights. They mobilize resources, mostly international, from diverse sources to directly support the solutions of these groups in a safe and effective manner.
The organizations within the Comuá Network have been working in partnership with these groups and movements for decades, and they know how to get the resources to them. On the other hand, corporate and family philanthropy has more difficulty operating in this way. However, arrangements between Comuá organizations and these philanthropic entities are already in place, demonstrating how innovative arrangements can bring more resources to support the fight for rights and, at the same time, provide greater efficiency and effectiveness in implementing local climate solutions. It is necessary to expand these resources through new arrangements, recognizing the leading role of the communities.
